PGARA.ca The Playground of Power.
Welcome back to another exciting year at the playground of power, PGARA Speedway. The Daytona 500 has been run and sooner than many racers will be ready for, our season opener will be here. We, the executive of the club are looking forward to the 2011 season. We have been working hard this winter to bring you an exciting, enjoyable experience at the racetrack every time you show up with friends or family. Our schedule is confirmed and up at PGARA.ca as well as very few, and simple rule changes for the Admiral Roofing Mini stocks, and Richmond Steel Street Stocks. We have not changed anything for the Hornets class. The rules are also frozen for 2011 and 2012 for all classes at PGARA.
I would like to welcome Danny Arronge and Jim Chapman to the awesome group of Board of Directors this year. Some projects we are working on this year are, finishing the inside pit wall with blocks provided by Rolling Mix Concrete, upgrading the public address system as well as the fm channel. A big thanks to Custom Auto Rebuilders for being a major help to upgrade our officials radios and headsets. We will have to pave a few small sections again this year as holes are developing and getting bigger, but if we stay on top of it, we will not have a problem.
Wescar/Arca West is coming again in the Spring, June 18th. They are the premiere late model racecars that come once a year. Last year we had 22 cars show up to battle it out for 100 laps, this is as close to NASCAR as it gets at PGARA. June 25th is our summer hit to pass extravaganza, as well as Sept long weekend and Halloween Havoc. If you haven’t been out for hit to pass in a while, then gather up the gang and come check it out, we are running pick up trucks, cargo vans, and cars that are doing lap times as fast as some racecars. Aug 13th and 14th is our Mini stock and Street Stock invitational. Last year we had 20 cars in each class with $2500 going to the minis and $6500 total cash for the street stocks for the weekend. We are paying out the same prize money this year with the Street Stock points winner of the weekend getting $2500 cash. We pay great tow dough as well for both classes, up to $300 for island cars. Congrats to Paul Tron last years Street stock winner and Billy Bell the Mini stocks winner.
The 2010 season saw all classes almost double in car count, and for 2011 there are at least 5 new mini stocks coming out, including former points champ Brad Wallin, and cars owned by former champions Jamie Crawford and Danny Arronge which will be driven by rookies. In the street stocks former CASCAR Champion Steve Jefferson and JJR Motorsports are building a Street stock. Josh Murray is rumoured to be coming out in Streets as well.
PGARA is the longest running not for profit society in Prince George which means every dollar from sponsors and gate money goes directly back to renovations to the property or towards bringing in shows or prize money. Every single person that works there, from the president, announcers, crash crew, officials, are all volunteers. The members and racers go to work parties once a week to fix grandstands, paint, do plumbing, hang signs, anything to keep the track running well. It takes over $100 000 a season just to keep the gates open every year let alone do any updates. Currently the track is doing very well with a lot of great sponsors, racers, volunteers and fans, we have no loans or bills going into 2011, and are ready to have our best year yet. So if you haven’t been out to the playground of power for a while, and would like to see an exciting, live action 3 hour show at an affordable price, come support your local race track, only 3 minutes from down town, next to the airport. We hope to see you all at the races!
