Message from the President
I hope everyone had an awesome new years eve, all the best to you and your family in 2010. The 2009 race season has been a very exciting and successful year for PGARA speedway. We finally got rid of the notorious bump in the middle of turn 3 when we did a paving project of 60 feet by 260 feet with the help of Twin Rivers and members of our club. We hosted the Northland Dodge 100, ARCA west OK Tire series with great success as we had a good crowd that got to see a very exciting top notch series put on a show with drivers from all over B.C. We had a great invitational with good prize money up for grabs for the MST Carriers Mini stocks and the A Star Auto Recyclers Thunder Stocks with Cars coming from Quesnel, Williams Lake, and Ft St John. We also added a Halloween Havoc Hit to Pass in October which was a huge success with 15 cars and trucks and the grandstands and hills full of screaming fans. We also had fireworks and the giant exploding pumpkin which really livened up the show. We also brought back the fun stuff for the kids at intermission, like bubbles and chalk drawing on the front straight away and costume contests. All race day shows were complete by 10pm and the hit to pass shows were finished by 11pm. We have an excellent team of officials and volunteers that provide a professional show for the fans that starts on time and is finished in 2 ½ to 3 hours. This year we brought out a bare bones stock 4 cyl class called the hornets that is for new drivers only. These cars are very easy and cheap to build and race, and I personally think it will be the biggest class at PGARA by 2012.
For 2010 we have a lot on our plate as we are going to try new ideas to help keep the fans and drivers excited about coming to PGARA. For a back up show during hit to pass we are having skid races where front wheel drive cars have skis welded to the back rims so that it makes the cars skid sideways through the turns as well as put on a great spark show under the lights. For the truck guys in town we are going to have a couple of tug ‘o’ war contests for 4 by 4 trucks to show off in. We are revamping our Thunders and Hobby stock rules to match the rules with the Street Stocks in the rest of British Columbia. This is the closest all the tracks in B.C. have been with rules for 1 class ever. The rule changes for all classes are now on the website as well as a tentative schedule for 2010. We hope to see you at the races this summer, and promise to do our best to give you your moneys worth and with something to talk about.
Chris Arronge.
