HORNETS RULES 2011

2011 Rules frozen for 2 Years

Entry Level Ministock Class (Hornets)
(These rules will also be used for the building of the 4-Cylinder roller
Derby)
This is an entry level class for young drivers to start racing. These are very basic cars with minimal build requirements to encourage more participation. This is not for experienced racers to come in and dominate or itimidate younger drivers.

All car owners must provide Tech official with a specification sheet for their car.  This document will be used to check the car at any time during the season for compliance.

  • Drivers
  • ligibility Minimum age 14 yrs
    Drivers may only have maximum of one year
    racing experience in any racing class to be able
    to run Hornets.
  • The championship winner at the end of the
    season is not eligible to run in the class the next
    year.
  • If there is sufficient interest on a given race day,
    a 2nd (B-Class) of drivers will be allowed a short
    race during the race day. This is for experienced
    drivers or car owners. It is not for points or a
    championship.

Car

  • Year 1990 or Earlier.
  • Max Horsepower 96hp from factory.
  • No Camber Allowed.
  • Wheels/Tires Must be stock, snow tires are OK.
  • No chains, studded tires or hubcaps.

  • Safety
  • Cage Must have 2” pipe (maximum outside diameter).
  • 2 bars up, 1 bar across, behind driver, with a 6”
    square plate welded on each end. 4 - 3/8”
    bolts and big washers in each end.
  • No limit to roll cage safety.
  • Must have 1 1/2” bar (oustside diameter) running
    through the drivers door.
  • Reinforcement Concrete in drivers door mandatory.
  • Front hoop allowed (maximum 2” outside diameter).
  • All cars must have a minimum of one (1) windshield bar installed from top to bottom, evenly spaced, attached securely and be a minimum of ¼”x 1” steel. The bar may be placed on the outside of the windshield.
  • Window net on the driver’s side window mandatory. This net must be removable and an approved safety window net. (No homemade window nets)
  • Fuel Cell Can remain in stock location if the gas tank is
    plastice and is in front of rear axle.
  • A skid plate must be secured between the fuel tank and track
  • If gas tank is behind rear axle, it must be removed and a fuel cell must be used.
  • If fuel cell is used, it must be securely mounted with firewall between fuel cell and driver.
  • Battery Must be relocated inside the driver’s compartment, securely fastened and covered in rubber
  • Racing belts required, minimum 4 point harness.
  • No fiberglass or plastic racing seats allowed.
  • All doors, hood and trunk lids must be chained, bolted or pinned.
  • Minimum 3" x 36" yellow strip on back of trunk lid or on rear bumper for all rookie drivers.
  • All chrome, glass, mirrors and exterior plastics must be removed.
  • Must have muffler which exhausts behind driver, or can be run through the hood.
  • All cars must be presentable.
  • Numbers must be on the doors and roof.
  • All suspension components, including bolts, must remain factory size, in factory location.
